When should you use signpost method?
A signpost is a marker indicating where you are in your speech/presentation or the direction that you are going. Think of road signs you pass on the highway. For example, a sign that lets you know you are now entering Vancouver. The sign also indicates that Whistler (where you are heading) is 120 km from Vancouver.
Why is sign posting important?
Signposting language can help you guide the reader through your writing and make sure the order is clear and flows well. These are small words or phrases that help the reader follow your argument, understand the relationship between your ideas and anticipate what's going to come next.
How do you do a signing post?
Signposting means using phrases and words to guide the reader through the content of your essay/dissertation. There are two main types of signposting: introductions, conclusions and outlining main arguments/ the direction of the argument in paragraphs/opening phrases.
